Obaid Azam Azmi was born on February 6, 1976 in Shadnipur Azamgarh. His father Sheikh Shamim Ahmed has been an MLA from Mumbai. Obaid Azmi graduated from Muhammad Haji Sabo Siddiqui High School (SSC). And after doing MA, he began contributing to the field of Urdu literature. A regular at literary seminars, he articulately puts his essays and articles up front. He is also a constant at Mushairas; having penned hundreds of Ghazals and Nazms, his poetry is very popular among the audiences. He is now the Secretary of Anjuman-e-Tarqi Urdu. Obaid was once very close to Majrooh Sultanpuri. These days he enjoys an esteemed acquaintance with Javed Akhtar, and closely associated with him in publishing the works of Javed Sahib’s grandfather Muztar Khairabadi.
Obaid’s poetry is that of a new generation, and his taste, extremely cultivated. He has also been praised by critics and connoisseurs alike. Free from any technical flaws, is poems are meticulously decorated. He effortlessly dovetails moral motifs into his writings. Very easy to understand, his couplets have an instant effect on his readers. Other poets also acknowledge this quality of his; which is now found in very few poets.
