A popular poet of mushairas, Shafiq Koti was born on 14 August, 1903 at a place called Kote in Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh. He got his Diploma from Government Technical School and served the irrigation department. He was naturally inclined towards writing poetry from an early age. He sought counselling on his poetry from famous master of many poets Seemab Akbarabadi. In 1969, he published his collection of ghazals entitled Dayaar-e-Ghazal.
He died on 11 February, 1976 at Lahore.
