Shamshad was born on 31 July 1917, in Sialkot, Pakistan. She was a brought up in the literary atmosphere of Lahore. She did her M.A B.T and joined the education department. Initially, she wrote in Urdu and Persian, but the successive deaths of her mother and sister distressed her. So nowadays, she lives in seclusion and is affected by sorrow. These tragedies turned her into a poetess. However, the reason she had changed her name to Najma Tasadduq was related to her clan. She was the disciple of Seemab Akberabadi. Her collection of poetry, Najma Ke Soo Sher was published from Aiwan-E-Adab Aligarh.
