Mahshar Shayari

Doomsday has had religious connotations. It concerns the day when the world would come to an end and all human beings would be rewarded or punished according to their deeds. In poetry, however, doomsday does not necessarily relate with this day but with the one when the lovers/beloveds create unimaginable misery to each other. Here are some examples of its multiple manifestations.

baḌā maza ho jo mahshar meñ ham kareñ shikva

vo minnatoñ se kaheñ chup raho ḳhudā ke liye

baDa maza ho jo mahshar mein hum karen shikwa

wo minnaton se kahen chup raho KHuda ke liye

Dagh Dehlvi

hameñ ma.alūm hai ham se suno mahshar meñ kyā hogā

sab us ko dekhte hoñge vo ham ko dekhtā hogā

on judgement day, let me say, I know how it will be

all eyes would be upon her and hers will be on me

hamein malum hai hum se suno mahshar mein kya hoga

sab us ko dekhte honge wo hum ko dekhta hoga

on judgement day, let me say, I know how it will be

all eyes would be upon her and hers will be on me

Jigar Moradabadi

dekheñ mahshar meñ un se kyā Thahre

the vahī but vahī ḳhudā Thahre

dekhen mahshar mein un se kya Thahre

the wahi but wahi KHuda Thahre
