Sher on Jabr

Human beings are probably

destined to live under constrains and coercion. This is because they don’t necessarily enjoy the freedom of will that they aspire for. Such situations of compulsion, constraint, coercion, and helplessness relate with our social, political, religious, and cultural lives. Here are some verses that represent various states of constraints and coercion.

Muzaffar Razmi

zindagī jabr hai aur jabr ke āsār nahīñ

haa.e is qaid ko zanjīr bhī darkār nahīñ

zindagi jabr hai aur jabr ke aasar nahin

hae is qaid ko zanjir bhi darkar nahin

Fani Badayuni

maiñ huuñ bhī aur nahīñ bhī ajiib baat hai ye

ye kaisā jabr hai maiñ jis ke iḳhtiyār meñ huuñ

main hun bhi aur nahin bhi ajib baat hai ye

ye kaisa jabr hai main jis ke iKHtiyar mein hun
