An allusion is an indirect reference to real or mythical person, place, situation, event etc. It is used as a creative tool to broaden the horizon of meaning in a text. Allusions are usually drawn from mythology, history, culture, and such other sources and used by writers and producers of verbal, non-verbal, performance, and other texts to add value to their work and to acquire larger appeal among readers. Allusions have been widely used in Urdu literary texts.
